Deicy Beatriz's story

Sra. Deicy C. is a member of the Communal Bank “Tres de Noviembre” (Third of November). She lives in the May 24th community which is in the parish of Cumbe. In this area, there are livestock farms with large open pastures. Cumbe offers visitors many special recreational areas such as the view of El Calvario, which is a 15 minute walk from the parochial center; El Gulash, which is between Santa Rosa, Cumbe, and Jima; the beautiful Pucará in Sagrada de los Cañaris; the banks of the Cumbe River; and the ruins of Ingahuasi that ascends to Tinajillas.

Doña Deicy works at a stationery shop that she owns. She started this business a year ago. Deicy works Monday through Sunday from 6am to 7pm. She also raises pigs and chickens to sell throughout the parish.

Deicy is 27 years ago and has been widowed for a year. She has three children who are 7, 6, and 4 years of age. All of her children are in school. Deicy does not have her own home, so she lives at the house of her in-laws and shares in the expenses.

Deicy has been a member for four years and joined the Communal Bank after her mother convinced her to join this group of women entrepreneurs. Her new loan will be invested in the purchase of products for her stationery shop such as books, notebooks, pens, etc.

Her goal is to have a home of her own.
