Abashyirahamwe No 10 Group's story

Pierre Bungura was born in Ruhuha, in eastern Rwanda. He is 43 years old, married and has 8 children. The eldest is 19 years old and the youngest is 1. Pierre has completed primary school. He lives with his family in Ruhuha Bugesera. 5 of his children go to school.

He belongs to Abashyirahamwe No 10, a solidarity group of rice growers who guarantee each other’s loans. Pierre and his group work to support their families, to improve their quality of life and to pay their children’s tuition fees.

The group has taken out a loan from Amasezerano Community Banking to buy chemical fertilisers for their fields. When the group harvests their crops, a part is sold and the rest is used for their families.
