A loan of $1,000 helped to buy agricultural fertilizers and a small amount of livestock.

Gumercindo Segundo's story

Gumercindo Segundo Barragán M. is 71 years old. He is married and lives in San Miguel Canton in the province of Bolivar. He has 6 children; they are 50, 45,42, 40, 39 and 37 years old.

Gumercindo is a member of the San Isidro rural ventanilla ( rural loan group), which is an hour and a half away from San Miguel. There are 10 members, the majority of the members farm corn and wheat.

Gumercindo works in agriculture and raises animals (livestock) as a source of income for his family. He also plants corn. He makes purchases and sales of his products in a community closer to him, in San Pablo.

He is requesting this loan in order to buy fertilizer and a small amount of livestock. With the support of this loan, he hopes to improve the economic condition of his family. His goal for the next few years is that the household will be sustained and that there are medications. The challenge is that the prices have fallen in the livestock market.

He likes to participate in the unique customs of his community like the San Isidro celebration, who is the patron saint of the community.
