A loan of $850 helped to buy raw materials and ingredients for his daily meals especially sauces and to add more chairs and work tools because he has many more customers.

Concepción Valerio's story

Concepción Valerio B. F. lives in Malambo and has sold prepared meals for over twenty years. He worked in a restaurant for five years and this is where he got the experience. When he retired he used his severance pay to follow his dream of being independent in some strategic location in Barranquilla.

Concepción has had 25 loans with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. He started out with the organization participating in group loans but after his 22nd loan he became independent.

He needs a Kiva loan to buy raw materials and ingredients for his meal preparations, especially sauces. He also wants to add more chairs and work tools because he has many more customers.

Since becoming associated with the Foundation he has had a very good credit history. His greatest challenge happened when the Metro Bus System was being built because sales dropped. Once construction was completed, though, he recovered and experimented with opening a second sales point which to date has had good results so he’d like to keep it and strengthen it.

His dream is to continue improving his home so that he, his wife and three children, who are between the ages of 23 and 30, can be more comfortable. Therefore, he proposes to continue to persevere in his work and to continue to seek his family’s welfare.
