El Jardin Group's story

The “Jardin” (Garden) group is located in Agua Fria Valle. It is comprised of three women who have a good relationship. They are characterized as being very united and supportive women. What follows are details of their different activities.

Nelsis M., age 40, is a single mother with three children. Her oldest daughter helps her take care of her younger siblings while Nelsis prepares the sweets that she sells at the school square. In the mornings she sells her sweets to the students at the school, and in the afternoon she sells soft drinks. She will use the loan to buy soft drinks and meat to prepare the treats.

Maria Josefina A. is 49 years old, and she has four children. Maria sells bread, used clothes, tamales, and tortillas. She is a woman who wants to get ahead, and she works very hard to do so. She will use the loan to buy used clothes.

Ada Nohemy C. M. is 24 years old, and she has two children. Her husband helps her every month with the household expenses and the children’s expenses. Ada sells perfumes, creams, talcum powders, and shampoos from the Avon line of products. Ada is an elementary school teacher. As she has not been able to find work during the last five years, she has devoted herself to commerce. She also makes treats like tamales, pastries, popsicles, and chocolate covered bananas. That is the way that she tries to get ahead. She will use the loan to buy cosmetics.
