Monica's story

Monica W. is 29 years old. She is married and has two children, aged 4 and 7 years. Her business is located at Juja in Thika. Thika is the region in Kenya known for the production of pineapples.

She sells fruits and vegetables, including oranges and pineapples. She also sells sweet potatoes and arrow roots. She says that this business is profitable and the only major challenge she has is that there are very many people in the area doing the same kind of business as hers; hence, customers are spoiled for choice. However, she works very hard to keep her business doing well.

She is using her loan of 20,000 Kenyan shillings to buy more fruits and vegetables to meet customer demand. In the future, she hopes to own her own premises from where she will be running her business. She describes herself as hardworking.
