A loan of $725 helped to better furnish her restaurant, and also to buy ingredients in bulk.

Lediz Mercedes's story

Lediz Mercedes O. owns a restaurant called La Guajira located in the municipality of Santo Tomás in the department Atlántico. She has a son, and her business has helped him get ahead in life even though he is already 40 years old and independent.

Lediz is now seeking a Kiva loan to better furnish her restaurant, and also to buy ingredients like rice and oil in bulk for the food she makes. She has run her restaurant for thirty years and knows the business inside out. She started out running a ‘fritangueria’ (traditional restaurant) and gradually added fast food, soups etc until she got to the stage she is at today: running a very prosperous restaurant where she sells all kinds of dishes.

Lediz’s principal goal is to separate the business from the house and thus improve them both. Her main challenge is the lack of capital--getting a loan is costly and difficult to obtain. For this reason she is approaching Kiva partner Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, an organisation which will provide working capital so she can make her business more successful.
