Fernando Alfredo
Fernando is 23 years old, married, and works as a customs agent. He lives with his grandmother, who gave him a room that he has been making improvements to.

He has been working in the same company for five years and is happy to have kept his job, because previously he worked as a bartender and did not make good money.

His greatest desire is to have his own house, which he hopes to have in the future. In the mean time, he wants to replace the roof of the room where he lives, because with the rains, water has leaked through. He will buy corrugated metal sheets, wooden beams, nails, and paint with this loan, and will replace the roof. Because he hasn't had enough money to do so, he hasn't replaced it before now.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
