A loan of $850 helped to buy corn, firewood, bowls, and fruits, to increase her sales of tortillas and fruit juices.

Mercedes Del Socorro's story

Mercedes is an older woman who works very hard at her business of six years, which is selling tortillas and fruit juices. She has worked very hard since she was young because she has been a single mother who had to do a lot of work to provide her family with the necessities. When she started her business, she did it with very little and with her own money.

Her house is made half of stone, half of wood, and she hopes to invest in it in the future.

Now, with this loan, she will invest in the purchase of several quintales [1 quintal = 46kg] of corn, firewood, bowls for selling, and fruits to make a variety of juices. She will also hire another young girl to help her to make the tortillas by hand. She already has a girl who helps her pat the tortillas, who she pays seventy córdobas a day. This way, she will not have to be in front of the fire three times a day, and can tend to distributing the beverages. With this investment, she hopes to increase her production and to bring in more profits.
