Mery Z. C. is a hard working, dutiful woman. She has five children four of whom are married and one is still single. She sells a variety of foods like: picarones (pumpkin and sweet potato doughnuts), tamales and mazamorras (corn-based pastry). She also works selling AVON products and shoes for men and children (on order). She has been working for two years in order to afford medicine for her health. She used to do it only when required to meet some special need but now she does it continuously. At the same time she makes weavings (on order) like ponchos, scarves and sweaters for children. Mery has always enjoyed being a businesswoman.

Thanks to her dedication and financial and economic support from EDAPROSPO she has improved her business. She was also able to buy a few things like a refrigerator, a dining room set and other necessary utensils for the home.

She strives daily to improve service and satisfy customers. Her children help her pay for her medicine and are always watching over her.

She will use the loan that EDAPROSPO will grant to buy shoes at wholesale for subsequent resale on order. In time she’d like to have a candy shop and a restaurant to earn higher income.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
