A loan of $550 helped to buy tables and chairs.

Carmen Marisol's story

In the outskirts of Portoviejo, we find the Ciudadela San Gregorio, a place where the members of the communal bank "San Gregorio" meet twice a month.

Here we find Carmen, who tells us something about her life. She has been in a common-law marriage for 20 years, and from this marriage they have 3 children: one who is now grown and studies in the University, and 2 younger ones who are in school. Her husband is a driver who transports freight.

They have a small family-style restaurant attached to their home where they sell traditional food such as: encebollados (a soup made of tuna, cassava and vegetables), ceviche, and other dishes made from seafood. She works from Thursday to Sunday from 7am until 1pm, with the help of her husband and their children. She says that this business was established with the help of a loan that was taken from the Fundación Espoir, and that it has done very well.

This new loan will be used to buy tables and chairs to provide greater comfort to her customers.

She has participated in 7 loan cycles with her communal bank, and she hopes to continue for many more cycles.
