A loan of $2,025 helped a member buying cinnamon, chilies, seeds, bags, etc.

Emmanuel Group's story

Emmanuel, which means "God with us," is made up of eleven members. They live in the Cerro del Márquez community on the edges of the Chalco Valley, in the State of México. They have an immense desire to get ahead, and for this reason they are ready to work hard every day, and they are grateful for the support provided to them on Kiva's part and through the Realidad Foundation.

Oliva O. G. is 57 years old and comes from the state of Oaxaca. Unfortunately, she did not have the opportunity to finish her studies; instead, she went to Mexico City to work. Nineteen years ago, she began selling garlic, dried chilies, cinnamon, seeds, etc. During the night, she works wrapping her cinnamon and bagging her garlic so that she can begin very early the next day with her sales at the markets set up for her community. Starting at eight in the morning, she walks through the markets to sell her products, since she does not have a fixed place for her business. She tries to restock her products every eight days, so that she will always have merchandise and so that she can fill the orders placed with her during the week. Oliva plans to begin a new activity which will give her another source of income, so that she does not have to do without the necessities. With the requested loan, she will buy merchandise such as cinnamon, brown paper, bags, string, rubber bands, etc. With this, she will be able to sell a bit more.
