Ernesto's story

Ernesto is 37 years old and lives with his wife and 2 children in a community called Coquital de Alajuela. This community is noteworthy for its mountains and for being very close to the northern frontier of our country.

Ernesto has a small landholding in which he has sown different crops, including potatoes and plantains. For 7 years he has planted ñame, a tuber with an agreeable flavor, rich in nutrients, widely processed and in great demand in Costa Rica and in other countries. With this business, he has improved the quality of life of his family.

At present, Ernesto is soliciting a loan of 604,000 colons to help him in preparing the soil, buying seeds and fertilizers, among other supplies, that are necessary to guarantee optimal sowing of ñame.

Ernesto is part of the Empresa de Crédito Comunal Rapicrédito Progreso Futuro Coquital, one of the 100 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be his first credit, and he is certain that his business will generate grand earnings.
