A loan of $1,200 helped to buy dairy cows and animal feed for them.

Elena's story

Elena Muñoz V., 37, is a single mother of a 17-year-old son who is in secondary school. They live with her parents in a rural area of Canco towards the north of Colomi.

Elena tells us that she used to be primarily a famer but didn’t do too well economically so she decided to go into animal raising and cheese and milk sales.

CIDRE had the opportunity to travel through the area and Elena approached us to consult regarding her need of funds to buy a nursing dairy cow and oats (forage) for her cattle.

Raising cattle provides the higher income and makes it possible for her to keep her son in school until he becomes a professional since she never had the chance to even finish elementary school because her parents were of such scarce resources. She intends finally to live more comfortably alongside her parents who are now senior citizens.
