A loan of $1,000 helped to purchase basic grains, fruits, vegetables, and lemons.

Margarita Agustina's story

The community bank named "May 3" meets every two weeks in the district of Picoaza in the city of Portoviejo. The location is known for its commerce, for its traditional feast days of San Pedro and San Pablo, and for the generally happy population.

Margarita has been a member of the community bank for the past 15 loan cycles. She says that the loans have helped her immensely especially during the difficult time when her husband passed away. She still remembers him with sadness but her heart is filled again with the love that his
children bring her. All seven children live with her.

She sells vegetable sand fruits in the market in Manta. She works from Friday to Sunday, starting at 4am when she goes to the market in Portoviejo to purchase the best products to bring back to her clients in Manta. She comes back home only after she has sold all her stock.

Thsi new loan will be used to purchase various products, especially corn because it is highly sought out and lemons because there is a shortage and she can sell at a good price.

Her dream is to have a large store in her house and not have to travel any more.
