A loan of $1,000 helped to purchase uniforms.

Martha Irene's story

Martha T. is a member of the community bank named "El Mirador". She lives in the region of Turi and it is known as Cuenca's lookout, as it is here from where you can see the expanse of the city. The population is made up of farmers and agriculturists, products that are mostly consumed within the city.

This is Martha's ninth loan through her community bank. She has developed a close friendship with the other members of the group.

She works in a department store but only during the summer months. At other times she works from home, raising chickens that she later sells in her community.

Martha is 31 years old, she is married and she has 3 children, aged 15, 11, and 10 years old. All of her children are in school. Her husband is a taxi driver. The home where they live is not theirs but rather it belongs to her parents-in-law. They share all the expenses.

This new loan granted through Fundacion Espoir (Kiva Field Partner) will be invested in the purchase of uniforms for her children.

Her dream is to have a house of her own.
