Gloria is 47 years old and lives in Zone C of Huaycán. She is married and has three children, two of whom depend on her for support. Four years ago she began selling children’s clothing but since she began working with Edaprospo two and a half years ago, her clothing business has grown and now she also sells duvets, sweaters, sheets, and other things. She recently bought a computer and plans to invest her latest loan into more merchandise for her business, although she would love to start her own imported clothing store. She also happens to be the president of the “Sol Radiante de Huaycán” group, and has been since it was formed two and a half years ago. It is made up of eight friends and neighbors with a desire to prosper.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
