Martha's story

Martha C. is from the village of Angayoso, Manticao, Misamis Oriental. She is 43 years old, married, and has 3 school-aged children. To make a living, she owns and operates a sari-sari (variety) retail shop, selling both food and daily use products in the local community. She has been engaged in her business for over 16 years and earns approximately $206 a month for these activities.

In 2005, Martha joined HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. She has successfully repaid a previous loan of 21,000 PHP from HSPFI. This previous loan was used to purchase additional products to sell.

Martha is requesting a new loan of 24,000 PHP which will be used to purchase additional inventory and as working capital. This will be her 11th loan from HSPFI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated to expand her business.
