A loan of $1,000 helped to buy organic manure and potato seed.

Apolinar's story

Apolinar, 41, has been in a union with Mrs. Severina Merubia Terrazas for over 21 years. They have two dependent children who are students. They live in Colomi, Pucara, 45 kilometers to the south along the Cochabamba-Santa Cruz highway. Both are farmers.

Apolinar and his wife comment that the death of their 22-year-old son two months ago brought about some unexpected high expenses that made it impossible for them to be able to buy organic manure and potato seed.

They came by our CIDRE offices in person to request a loan because they had prepared fields ready. According to them, they produce potatoes, lima beans, oca (a tuber), papalisa (an Andean tuber). This is their only source of yearly income with which they support the family and pay for the education of their two children who are in primary school. Lastly, they say they will plant larger surfaces.
