A loan of $550 helped to buy an industrial sewing machine.

Johana Margarita's story

The San Eduardo Communal Bank meets every two weeks on San Eduardo Street in Portoviejo near a beautiful park called “El Mamey.”

We met with Johana who’s married and has two daughters one of whom is 8 years old and the other is a beautiful one-month-old baby. They are the light of her life, she says.

She was born in Crucita (beautiful beach of Portoviejo) but came to live here when she got married.

She has been a dressmaker for several years. She makes all kinds of clothes but she says what she likes best is to make children’s clothes. She combines her work with her household chores even though the house belongs to her in-laws. She says that she works on her projects during the night and all day on weekends. During the day she works at a sewing workshop so she uses her time to the maximum degree in order to complete her contracts.

She has been in the communal bank for three cycles and is very happy because they have helped her much. The new loan will be used to buy an industrial sewing machine to improve production.

Her dream is to own her own house.
