A loan of $1,100 helped to buy an industrial sewing machine.

Amarilis Del Socorro's story

The members of the San Eduardo communal bank meet on San Eduardo Street in Portoviejo, a place of honest, hard working people.

She was born in Agua Fria, 24 de Mayo Canton. She’s married and has 4 children. She came to Portoviejo at the age of 12 to study. She learned sewing at the Ángela Rosa Cevallos Academy. She worked in a sewing workshop where she learned much. Later, with help from financing from Fundación Espoir, she bought a sewing machine and now she makes all kinds of clothes for women, although she loves making athletic clothes, at home.

She works every day from Monday through Friday until 5pm in a workshop and at night and on weekends all day at home. Sometimes when she has a lot of work a coworker from work helps her.

She has been in the communal bank for 8 years and she is very happy because it’s helped her a lot. She will use the new loan to buy an industrial sewing machine to increase production.

Her dreams are to have a great workshop and to finish her house which is still under construction.
