Seriousness Group's story

These are women with small-scale businesses in Makeni, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT, a Kiva partner, to seek a loan of SLL 500,000 each to enable them expand their businesses. With a loan of SLL 500,000, they will each be able to add more stock to their business, make more sales, and make more profit. Consequently, they will be able to improve their standard of living by sending their children to school, and by feeding and clothing them.

Martha T. (pictured on the left) is the leader of this group. She was born in Malal village 48 years ago and is married with six children. Her husband is a businessman and one of her children is attending primary school.

Martha sells creams and clothes and has been doing this business for many years now. With her share of the loan, she will expand her business by buying creams and clothes wholesale to add to her stock.
