Lassina's story

Mr Lassine O. is more than 35 years old, married and father to three children. He lives with his family in Wayerma II, the central town of Sikasso (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Having had several unsuccessful businesses, Mr. O. launched himself into the business of selling various articles, and he has a shop in front of his marital home where he has been carrying out his business buying and selling articles such as cigarettes, candy, matches, chewing gum, powdered milk, tea, sugar, soap etc., for more than three years.

In order to satisfy ever growing customer demand, he decided to join the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso, around two years ago. he has already had two loans which were both repaid in full. He is requesting this third loan in order to buy ten cartons of different cigarettes, five cartons of tea, five sacks of sugar, five packets of candy, ten packs of chewing gum, thirty packs of matches and ten cartons of soap. His goods are bought from the town's wholesaler traders before being sold retail in his shop in Wayerma I.

He is expecting to make a monthly profit of 170,000FCFA with this loan, and this will be used essentally to increase his business, contribute to family expenses and pay the interest on his loan.
