A loan of $5,000 helped a member to buy 10 bags of rice, 5 bags of Omo, Fanta, etc.

Tuungane Group's story

Immaculée Salama is the secretary of the Tuungane solidarity group, which has 16 members. She is 39 years old, married, and the mother of six children. Her husband is a teacher. Her eldest son is 17, the youngest 7, and all children attend school.

She has been in the retail business for five years, selling miscellaneous items. She started out with her own funds, approximately $100, which her husband gave her. She sells sugar, Omo, rice, Fanta, etc. She has a booth at the central market of Virunga.

With this loan, she will increase her sales by purchasing 10 bags of rice, 5 bags of Omo, Fanta, etc. Her biggest challenge is that she occasionally sells on credit, and some customers delay payment, or do not pay at all.

She wants to buy a plot of land and build on it, for her children.

Immaculée Salama wishes to thank the Hekima MFI for supporting underprivileged people who do not have access to traditional banks.
