A loan of $550 helped to purchase chicks and feed.

Xavier Ordem's story

Xavier Ordem Gazolinha was born in the Zambezi province. He is married and has three children ages 7 to 17 who all attend school. Xavier attended school through high school, but did not continue due to the distance from his home to the university. He lives in his own home and supports his parents who live in Zambezia, sending them 2.000.00mt every 6 months.

Xavier was recruited to be a soldier. He completed 2 years and then was called to do an intensive basic training course in the Armed Forces. Today he is a police officer with the rank of criminal investigator (PIC). He works two 24 hour shifts followed by two consecutive days of rest, earning 5.500.00mt per month. With his wife's help he was able to build a coop and begin raising chickens to increase his family's income. However, he did not have sufficient funds and had many orders, so he came to Hluvuku and Kiva to request a loan to increase his flock. He has raised 4X100 boxes of chicks, spending 30.000.00mt and with a profit of 10.000.00mt depending greatly on mortality rates and the time of sale.

This is his fourth loan with Hluvuku and his second with Kiva. It is for 22.000.00mt which he will use to purchase chicks to increase his flock. The previous loans were for 14.000.00mt, 15.000.00mt and 22.000.00mt, which were also used to raise chicks.
