Zaina's story

Zaina N. lives in Kalerwe neighborhood in the city of Kampala, Uganda. She is single with four children who all attend school. Zaina has been in business selling banana leaves for over 10 years, and she works 7 days every week. Zaina sells her products in Kalerwe market and sells both on a wholesale and retail basis.

Zaina has requested a loan of 300,000 Ugandan Shillings from MCDT SACCO, which she will use to buy more bundles of banana leaves. The main business challenges for Zaina are transportation and seasonality. Her aspirations for her business are to deal in both bananas and banana leaves and to sell wholesale only. Zaina lives in a home that she rents and she has access to electricity and piped water. Her major monthly expenses are utility bills, food, and school fees.
