Jaspher, who has a mixed farm in Nyamira town in western Kenya, has been farming for the last nine years and has employed one farmhand. His mixed farm produces milk, bananas, maize and beans which he sells at a local market. He also earns income from his hotel business in the same area.
Jaspher is 30 years old and is married with three school-aged children.
He has requested this loan of 45,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. He hopes to use the extra income from this loan to pay school fees for his children and to improve the livelihood of the family. In the future, he hopes to acquire more agricultural land and plans to buy five more dairy cows.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
