María Angelita's story

Mrs. María is a member of the Yanuncay Community Bank. She lives in the Fatima section in the city of Cuenca, a city that is known for its natural beauty, its historical center, its four rivers for bathing, its food and its warm and friendly people. Our member works at her restaurant from Sunday to Sunday. She begins work at 6 a.m. and works until 8 p.m. She has been doing this work since she was young. Her mother taught her how to cook. Mrs. María is 73 years old and has been a widow for fourteen years. She has seven children. Six of her children are married and live on their own. Her single daughter lives in her house. This daughter helps her with her business. Because of the work she has performed since she was young, she was able to build her own home. This is Mrs. Maria’s third loan with the community bank. She is going to use the money to buy rice, sugar, etc. for her eatery. Her goal is to continue growing her business.
