Deun C. is a 28-year-old married woman who currently resides in the rural area of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. She is a sewing laborer who works in the garment industry. She started her job more than a year ago. Deun is blessed with a young child who is enrolled in school. Her husband is a construction foreman who employs help to provide his service. Deun will use the loan she requested to buy a motorcycle, so that she can commute to work and other places without hiring taxis at the highest price. She intends to use any remaining cash from the loan to buy more construction materials for her husband to use to support his service.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
