This village bank loan consists of eleven people who live in Bam village, in Takeo province. They will each use their portion of the loan for different goals in which to improve their living conditions. Mr. Munyra H., born in 1961, is a village bank president who was selected by the other members. He and his wife, Mrs. Saret Ven, are famers who own a four-hectare plot of land. They cultivate rice to sell in order to support their family. In addition, he is a village chief in this local village. His problem is that his field has infertile soil, but he does not have enough money to support improvements to the soil. So to improve production, Mr. Munyra H. is seeking for a loan to buy fertilizer. He is a father of six children, two of whom are seamstresses in a garment factory, while the other three are studying in school. The youngest one is five months of age.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
