A loan helped to purchase and insure a dairy cow.

Naftary's story

32 year old Naftary has been farming for the past six years in Nkubu town, eastern Kenya. He operates a mixed farm producing milk, maize and beans which he sells through Meru Central and at the local market. He is also employed at Mukune Cooperative Society. Naftary is married with two children, ages 5 and 18 months. His eldest child attends school.

Naftary has requested this loan of 67,600 Kenyan Shillings from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. He says that the income generated from this loan will help in educating his children as well as improving their standard of living. The manure from the dairy cows will help improve soil fertility thus increasing his output.

His biggest challenges have been disease, price fluctuations, transportation problems and unfavourable weather conditions. He, however, hopes to expand his farming in the future by acquiring no less than six dairy cows. He comments that Juhudi loans have really helped him as a farmer because they have allowed him to expand and increase his production.
