A loan of $550 helped to buy pigs.

Mariana De Jesús's story

Mrs. Mariana de Jesús García is a member of the Los Talvos communal bank. She lives in San Miguel, a community in Del Valle parish, known for its natural beauty. Its residents are farmers and cattlemen. The young people move to the city in search of better employment opportunities and many have emigrated to various parts of the world in an effort to improve their home’s economies.

Mariana has worked as a secretarial assistant for the last 9 months. She works from 8am until 5pm, Monday through Saturday. At home, she raises small farm animals like: pigs, chickens and guinea pigs that she then sells at the livestock fairs.

Mariana, 24, is married and has two children who are 4 and 3 years of age. Her husband is a bricklayer. They do not own their own home; they live in a house they borrow from a relative.

She has been our partner for 5 years and the loans she has been granted have been beneficial in the purchase of animals and to provide groceries for the home.

She will use the new loan to buy more pigs in order to enlarge her business.

Her goal is to install phone and Internet service booths for her community.
