A loan of $1,375 helped a member seeds and fertilizer, labor costs and small farming equipment.

Benso 1 Group's story

The ten members of the Benso 1 group are married women on average 39 years old with three children. Most live in polygamous families in Maban, one of the villages belonging to the Dioïla Prefecture in the Koulokoro region, part of the 2nd administrative region of Mali.

They collaborate with the Soro Yiriwaso MFI to better organise their winter activities. Their cash crops are millet, peanuts and beans. This is their third farming loan and the two preceding ones have been duly repaid.

With this new loan Wassa T. intends to buy seeds and fertilizer, small farming equipment and pay laborers to cultivate approximately 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres) of millet and peanuts.

After harvesting the crops are sold in Dioïla to mainly retail merchants. She hopes to reach average earnings of 75,000 FCFA by the end of the farming season.
