Shamim is the wife of M. A. and resides in a city called Multan, famous in Pakistan for its sweetmeats and shrines. She owns a small house of two rooms there and has been living in it with her family for over fifteen years.

Shamim has given birth to six children: four daughters and two sons. All of her children are enrolled in a local school and read in different grades: 9th, 4th and 2nd respectively. She is bringing them up with care and discipline and wants to provide them with a quality education so they make their future bright. To achieve this purpose she works hard at running a boutique business in her house.

She uses a room of her house for her boutique where she displays embroidered and non-embroidered dresses and attracts customers. People who approach her mostly are her neighbors. She imports cloth from Faisalabad and Lahore, famous for their textiles, and then sews them well and makes embroidery on them to give them a new look to attract more customers. She earns approximately 10,000 PKRs from her business. Her income becomes double on special occasions. Eid, the Muslim holiday which comes after Ramadan, is near and she can improve her sales on this occasion. That’s why she has applied for a loan from Asasah for this purpose.

With the loan amount she will buy cloth, colored thread and beads in large quantity which will help her to make more dresses to display in her boutique. She is in her 2nd loan and has shown herself to be a very responsible loan user of Asasah.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
