A loan of $450 helped to buy chickens.

Mariana De Jesús's story

Mrs. Mariana de Jesús Z. is a member of the Reina de la Nube (Queen of the Cloud) communal bank. She lives in Paccha. Its residents are mostly farmers and cattlemen. They only produce enough for their own consumption. Most of the population goes to the city of Cuenca in search of work. Mrs. Mariana de Jesús is very young, she’s only 25. She’s a single mother of three children who are 9, 8, and 2 years of age. The two oldest are in school. She doesn’t own her home but lives in a room that is leant to her in exchange for her looking after a lot. Mariana has been employed as a domestic employee for the last 6 months; she works from Sunday to Sunday. This is the third loan she has had with Fundación Espoir. She will use it to buy chickens so that she can go into this business too. Her dream is to own her own house someday.
