María Beatriz's story

Sra. María Beatriz C. is a member of the Communal Bank “Reina de la Nube” (Queen of the Cloud). She lives in city of Cuenca, which is known for its beautiful churches and historical center. Being a city that is rich in culture, Cuenca was named a World Heritage Site in December 1999.

Doña María is 35 years old, divorced, and has three children (ages 20, 18, and 13). Her two older children are married and live independently. The youngest child is a student who attends high school in the city. She does not have a house of her own, so she lives in a rental property.

Sra. María has been selling Avon products for six months. She also has been selling clothing by catalog for three months. María recently started these businesses and hopes to continue growing them.

She has been a member of her Communal Bank for eight years and the loans have been a great help to her household. Her new loan will be invested in clothing and cosmetics to increase her inventory of products. Her goal is to accumulate her own operating capital.
