A loan of $1,000 helped to purchase shoes to sell.

Mercedes's story

Mercedes P. B. is 51 years old. She lives with her husband and her daughter in a small town called Cartagena de Santa Cruz, Guanacaste. This town is known as the cradle of Costa Rican folklore. It is on a very hot plain where the principal economic activities are ranching and tourism, which has developed thanks to the area's proximity to the best beaches in the country.

Mercedes has always stood out for being very entrepreneurial. Starting when she was very young, she helped her family selling ice cream in the main parks of the community. Today she has her own business, selling shoes door to door. She buys and sells shoes door to door in her community.

She tells us that her business has gone quite well, but she needs to invest more in order for her business to grow and for her to realize her dream of having her own shoe store. For this reason she is requesting a loan of 500,000 (five hundred thousand Colones) to purchase more shoes so she can increase her sales and offer better variety to her customers.

Mercedes is a member of the Empresa de Crédito Comunal de Cartagena, one of the 100 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be her first loan. She is very happy that she has a new opportunity to achieve her dreams.
