A loan helped to purchase enough weaves, hair lotions, hair treatment and hair dryers to attract more customers.

Carol's story

Carol is 29 years old and lives in the town of Matuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are all currently in school. For the past seven years, Carol has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, which does hairdressing.

To help expand her business, Carol has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase enough weaves, hair lotions, hair treatment and hair dryers to attract more customers, and will help Carol to generate greater profits. She will manage to pay school fees and also buy new clothes for her children and herself. Carol hopes that in the future she will be able to expand the business into a bigger beauty salon come next year and build a house of her own.

Carol is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Carol who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
