Esperanza Divina 3 & 4 Group's story

Dorka is the coordinator of her group, Esperanza Divina 3 & 4 (Divine Hope). She makes her home here in a simple structure with her young child. She says that her most difficult challenge is to build her house. In the meantime, she enjoys being with her child at home.

Dorka is excited to be taking her eighth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loans and grown her business. She has had her business for over 5 years, starting with some savings she had and making the plan to start a business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business by buying underwear, pants and accessories. She will use the profits to invest in her business and to save to start building her house in the near future.

This Esperanza associate began with us because she like how the loans work, the group, the community and the opportunities. Her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti) clients generally. Her group is located in the rural area surrounding Hato Mayor, an agricultural area. This area, like nearly all impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic, suffers from unreliable running water (none of which is potable) and electricity.

In this group: Dorka, Marindy, Juan, Santa, Eddy, Santa, Agripina, German, Iris, Angela
