A loan helped a member to purchase dresses and shoes.

Upendo Maendeleo Group's story

Madame Georgette is a client of microfinance institution Hekima and leads the Upendo Maendeleo Group. She is married, 47 years old, and has 6 children who are all in school. Her partner works for a private company.

Georgette sells clothing, a business she started 5 years ago with startup funds from her husband. Later, she partnered with Hekima to support her business, and it has grown steadily since. With this new loan, she will purchase dresses and shoes, increasing her working capital. Her business's main challenge is lack of customers.

She would like for her children to continue their studies and to purchase a piece of land. Lastly, she would like to thank Hekima and its partners for the support they give to owners of non-bankable businesses during the global Covid-19 crisis. Only the group leader is shown in the photo due to social distancing measures.
