A loan helped to buy seeds and fertilizers and to pay for labour.

Philippine's story

Philippine is a widowed woman. She is 50 years old and has two children still in her care. She lives in a village on the outskirts of the city and owns a permanent house.

Philippine has been farming rice for about 30 years. She owns a few rice paddies. She would like to expand her business. She needs funds and consequently joined Vahatra to take out loans. Philippine will use the loan to buy seeds, fertilizers and to pay for labour. She will sell most of her harvest at the city market and conserve the rest to get by during the lean season.

With the profits from her previous loan, Philippine was able to put aside some savings. This time, she plans to grow her savings in order to safeguard her family's future.
