Komyeneh Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “Komyeneh” group from Magburaka, a town in Northern Sierra Leone. They are petty businesspeople who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, in order to seek a loan of SLL 500,000 for each in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profit and consequently improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Hawanatu T.. Hawanatu was born in Mayorloh village about twenty-seven years ago. She is married and has two children. Her husband is a businessman and her children are attending primary school. Hawanatu has had eight years of experience in business. She sells cigarettes, batteries, toothpaste, bars of soap, etc. She will use her share of the loan to buy batteries, toothpaste, bars of soap, etc. wholesale to add to her current inventory.
