A loan helped to purchase a drum of mazut fuel and fuel pump to stock her storage unit and increase her income.

Meriam's story

Meriam lives in a village which is 40 kilometres away from Port Vila, Vanuatu's capital city. Her community is large, and the main industry is agriculture. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been quite alright for one to make income as locals have been very supportive of each other. Meriam is 56 and happily married to a self-employed individual. They have four grown children who are always around lending a hand in her business, and they all live with her in her own home.

Meriam has asked for a loan to help her purchase a drum of mazut fuel and a fuel pump to stock her storage unit to better provide for her customers' high demand. She has been in the business for over 3 years now. With the extra drum it will help to increase her revenue. With her earned profits, she will start building a toilet and bathroom for her incomplete house. Meriam dreams to have her own fuel station to supply locals and visitors that pass by. This is her third loan with SPBD - Vanuatu. She has been faithful in her previous loan repayments. Through her loans, Meriam feels empowered to expand her business so she can become a successful woman in the future.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
