Chosen's story

Chosen is 29 years old and lives in the town of Matuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past five years, Chosen has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, which does hairdressing.

To help expand her business, Chosen has requested a loan of 1,200,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase weaves, hair lotions, hair treatments, and body cosmetics to attract more customers, and will help Chosen to generate greater profits so she can buy new clothes for her child and herself. Chosen hopes that in the future she will be able to acquire land and build a house for herself.

Chosen is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Chosen who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown enough to qualify for microloans.
