A loan helped to purchase weaves, hair lotions, hair treatments, and hair dryers.

Jania's story

Jania is 28 years old and lives in the town of Mattuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has two children, with one of them currently in school. For the past six years, Jania has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, where she does hairdressing.

To help expand her business, Jania has requested a loan of 1,200,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase weaves, hair lotions, hair treatments, and hair dryers to attract more customers, and will help Jania to generate greater profits. She will be able to buy new clothes for her children and herself.

Jania hopes that in the future she will be able to expand the business into a bigger beauty salon and build a house of her own.

Jania is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Jania who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown enough to qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
