Irene's story

Irene is 34 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children with 3 of them currently in school. For the past 5 years, Irene has been working hard to manage her decoration business, which does decorating.

To help expand her business, Irene has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more flowers and other items for the event business, and will help Irene to generate greater profits and improve of her standard of living by providing enough food for her family. Irene hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a big and attractive decoration business.

Irene is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Irene who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
