Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,000 helped buying rice, vegetables and soft drinks for her store.

Maria Isabel's story

María is 31 years old and has a general store. She lives in a peri-urban zone in Fortín de Guayaquil (an area of dirt paths and hills).

Her husband helps her in the store, and the couple has four children. Due to their low income, they decided 4 years ago to invest their savings in buying groceries and vegetables to sell to their acquaintances. Little by little, with effort, they have been able to create a small store in the front part of their home. María works from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

To increase her store's inventory, she would like to use the loan to buy rice, vegetables and soft drinks. In the future, she would like to obtain more customers and see her children finish their studies successfully.
