A loan of $900 helped to buy sacks of fertilizer and manure.

Miriam's story

Miriam, 22, lives in her own house with her life partner, Gabriel, 28, and their two small children. They live together in a settlement in Perú’s central mountain range. She’s a farmer. She and her husband watch over their potato, broad bean and olluco (a tuber) crops in their fields from very early in the morning.

She says that she enjoys her work very much although she has to be very diligent because the work is arduous and she must spend long hours withstanding the inclemency of the weather. However, she likes planting very much because the reward for her longsuffering work is when she reaps a quality harvest that she sells for good prices to wholesalers in the city. Besides the farming, she also raises sheep that she can sell for good prices once she fattens them up.

Because she’s a young, hard working mother, her plans for the future are to plant larger amounts to increase her profits.

This is her 7th loan with MFP and she promises to be very punctual with her repayments because she doesn’t want to disappoint her fellow group members who trusted her enough to include her in the group. Besides, she’s very grateful to all the people who funded the loan that will allow her to continue to work.

Miriam plans to use the requested funds to buy several sacks of fertilizer and manure that she needs to increase crop productivity because she wants to sell more to increase profits thereby continuing to progress.
