A loan of $375 helped to buy merchandise and for her son's Baptism.

Roxana's story

Roxana, 23, was born in the city of Chinchero located 30 minutes from the city of Cusco. She currently lives in Cusco with her husband and son, Mario Cesar, 1.

Roxana has sold sweets and soft drinks for the last 15 years to foreign and national tourists that come to visit the Chinchero archaeological sites.

Roxana is a member of the Natividad de Chinchero Association (a group of vendors that united to get social benefits). One can find Roxana at her sales stand seven days a week from 7am until 6pm or until the tourists leave the site.

Roxana expects to get 1000 new soles in her next loan. Part of the funds will be used to buy merchandise and the other will be used for her son’s Baptism.

The “Cusi Ccoyllor de Chinchero” communal bank has been in operation for two and a half years but Roxana is a recent collaborator in the bank and does well.

The name of the communal bank is a Quechua (the local native language) term that means “Beautiful Chinchero Princess.”
