A loan helped to pay for housing materials to complete her unfinished tailor shop to better provide for her customers.

Anna's story

Anna lives in an urban district which is located 2.5 kilometres away from Port Vila, city of Vanuatu. Her community is one of the largest urban residential areas near Port Vila, and the main industry is food. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been quite alright for one to make income. Anna is 57 years old, is married and has five grown up children. She lives with her family in her own home.

Anna has requested a loan to pay for housing materials to complete her unfinished tailor shop so she can better provide for her customers. She wants to provide a standardized shop so she can attract more customers. This will help increase her income, which she will use to purchase more sewing materials and finishing materials for her tailor shop.

Anna grew up around a family who sew for a living so she taught herself all kinds of patterns. She has been in this business for over 30 years now. This is Anna's fifth loan with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. She has been devoted to her previous loan repayments. Through her loans, Anna feels empowered to expand her business and become a successful businesswoman.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
